Hospice care is delivered at a time when caring, comfort, assistance and a special kind of healing are needed. It is a very special way of caring for people with a limited life expectancy. Hospice also provides comfort to and guidance to care givers, families and friends of the patient. Hospice care gives individuals an alternative to the traditional hospital setting, making it possible for the terminally ill person to remain at home or in other familiar surroundings.
Our exceptional Hospice program provides all the services necessary to help patients function to their unique capacity. The emphasis of SSM Hospice is on preserving the dignity and improving the quality of life through symptom management – which includes relief from emotional, spiritual and physical pain. And, although the focus of our care is in the home setting, hospitalization is also available for short-term stays during periods of crisis.
KIND OF CARE WE GIVE:
SSM Hospice offers the following services on an intermittent basis. Our staff members make visits based on medical necessity and under the direction of the patient’s physician and the Hospice team. Services of a Medicare / Medicaid certified Hospice program include:
- Drugs for symptom management and pain relief
- Short-term inpatient care, including respite care
- Continuous care for brief periods of crisis
- Home health aide and homemaker services
- Physician services
- Skilled nursing
- Pastoral services
- Medical social services
- Home medical equipment
- Trained hospice volunteers
